Imagine cooking healthy Greek cuisine in an outdoor kitchen overlooking the Ionian Sea! Absolutely fabulous! Then there was a series of local chefs who guided us through so many dishes that we have a cookbook.

​

Another fun aspect was the local special guests that were invited to our meals. We met some amazing people who we will always remember.

​

For me learning about a variety of greens and beans and their nutritional value was particularly valuable. Many items I had never heard of.

​

Altogether a memorable and life enhancing holidays.

Greece, what an incredible experience was/is an immersion into the quality of life we know so little of in America. We had a gracious and informative wrangler in Fiona. She took us places we would not have found on our own and introduced us to people who live in the area - lovely people who added their special charms.

The guest chefs gave their all for us to experience real food and the real work that goes into it. Be prepared to EAT and EAT!

The Aleiki house was perfectly located for being able to wander the village of Methoni - would love to return.

I was looking for a holiday I could enjoy as a member of a small group.I had done a few walking holidays but my knees were no longer upto it. A cooking holiday sounded perfect, combining three of my favourite things - shopping, cooking and eating. So I booked. Fiona met me at the airport, brimming with enthusiasm for the week to come. That was 2 years ago. I have just been back for a second Maverick Chefs cooking holiday and stayed on a few extra days just to relax and enjoy the wonderful local restaurants and beaches. I have become friends with Fiona, Dimitris, Gony and Ralf. We really do have a lot of fun together. This last group was especially diverse and interesting.

Dear Team Maverick,

 

Thank you all for a great week. As a complete novice I learned so much and can't wait to try out my new recipes at home. My favourite dishes were the 'Gemista' with Goni and the 'Gigantes' with Christina.

 

Cooking aside I loved exploring the local area - I hired a bike from the super-helpful Aldona at Methoni Bikes and visited Methoni Castle, Pylos aquaduct, Pylos castle, Gialova Lagoon, Paleokastro, Voidokilia Beach, Nestor's Cave and Kamaris' waterfalls - all in one day ! I took binoculars to the lagoon and was so lucky to see flamingoes and a stork !

Methoni itself is a charming little place and I felt like a local. I hope everyone is blessed with a break like mine.
